BIO – Biennial of Design is today conceived as a long-term collaborative process in which groups of designers and multidisciplinary experts develop alternatives to existing systems. The experimental process, exhibition, and accompanying events, hosted by the Museum of Architecture and Design and the Centre for Creativity, create a space for creative exploration and innovation, as well as for seeking responses to contemporary needs and challenges.
BIO serves as a platform that employs design and curatorial strategies to critically examine systems, production, services, scientific and humanistic questions, and the unforeseen conditions of our living environment. The diverse themes it addresses respond to both local and global challenges, transcending the boundaries of traditionally understood design.
The Biennial of Industrial Design (Bienale industrijskega oblikovanja - BIO) emerged alongside the development of industrial design in Yugoslavia. Its founders envisioned an event where designers and business leaders could recognise the value of design for industry and commerce while simultaneously fostering collaboration between the two sectors. The exhibition was intended not only as a showcase of products, but also as a platform for promoting high-quality design and connecting designers with manufacturers.
